We’re proud to spotlight James Hood, principal of Rodburn Elementary, for his dedication to ensuring students receive high-quality math instruction that builds critical thinking skills. 🏫➕
Through his work with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), Mr. Hood has been instrumental in aligning math instruction with High-Quality Instructional Routines (HQIR) in Rowan County. His commitment to strengthening math education has made a lasting impact on both teachers and students.
Now, his leadership is being recognized statewide! 🌟 With the passing of House Bill 162 – The Kentucky Numeracy Counts Act, Mr. Hood has been chosen as one of only six principal advisors across Kentucky to help design and lead new leadership academies in partnership with KDE and PIMSER. This initiative will support school leaders in improving math instruction for all students.
James shares, "I'm excited to participate in this program because it offers a unique opportunity to grow as a leader and advocate for high-quality mathematics education. Connecting with experts, learning from key legislation leaders, and gaining valuable resources will help push the boundaries of what we can achieve for our students."

Rowan County Schools and the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) value your input and want to hear about your experience as a parent or guardian of a child with an Individual Education Program (IEP). The information you offer will give the KDE and Rowan County Schools valuable data on how to improve parent and family engagement.
To collect your input, we ask that you complete a brief survey about how the school supported parent or guardian engagement to improve services and results for your child during the current school year. Specifically, we want to hear about how your child’s school involves you in the special education process. All responses are anonymous and cannot be traced back to you or your child.
The online survey can be completed in three ways:

Each year, the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) program provides an encouraging snapshot of the dedication and hard work of Rowan County students and this year, the numbers are something to celebrate! As of the end of the 2023-24 school year, Rowan County students have been awarded a remarkable $700,000 in scholarship funding through KEES. This milestone reflects the collective commitment of our students to their academic goals and the investment that KEES makes in Kentucky's future.
The KEES program, funded by the Kentucky Lottery, awards scholarships based on students' GPAs and ACT scores, enabling them to pursue post-secondary education with financial support. For Rowan County, the annual KEES report reminds us of how well our students are doing and the substantial assistance they receive toward college costs. This funding alleviates the financial burden on students and their families and recognizes the academic efforts that make Rowan County students stand out.
Rowan County School officials and community members encourage students and families to take pride in this accomplishment, recognizing that every dollar awarded is a testament to our students' dedication. This recognition also serves as a motivator for younger students to set their academic sights high, knowing that hard work can lead to financial support for college.
“We are incredibly proud of our students and their achievements,” a Rowan County school representative shared. “This $700,000 in KEES funding is more than a number—it’s a celebration of each student’s commitment to excellence. We can’t wait to see what they’ll accomplish next!”
